Some of our pianos that we use at the studio are from My First Piano. They have been in business since 1929, and their store is located at 1166 S Gilbert Rd Suite 113,Gilbert AZ 85296.
The unique thing about My First Piano is that you can take a piano home for six months to test it out and see if you like it or not. If the student likes it, they can use the rental fee towards the purchase. If the student doesn’t like it, My First Piano will move it for free and you’ll just have to pay the rental fees for the duration rented.
With the flexibility of different payment options, it’s definitely worth giving My First Piano a try to see if they have pianos that work for you. If you mention Scottsdale Studio of Music, you will be able to get a discount for your purchases!
AZ Pianos
Website: https://azpiano.com
Located at 4134 E. Wood St.,Phoenix, AZ 85040; we were astonished by how massive the store was when we bought our two Kawaii pianos there. The store has a 20,000 square foot showroom filled with pre-owned and new pianos. The owner, Jason, has a lot of knowledge on what pianos would work best for different levels of students and gives a lot of good suggestions to help you go through the purchase process. The prices at the store are usually cheaper than Yamaha or Kawaii’s official website. With the large amount of inventory at the store, you will surely be able to find something that works for you. Be sure to call the store before showing up, confirming it is open that day.
Riverton Piano
Website: https://www.rivertonpiano.com
If you want a variety of options from beginner to high end pianos for professionals, Riverton Piano should be on your list to stop by. With two locations in Arizona and three locations in Utah, the company definitely focuses on good quality pianos. The selection of the pianos can change frequently and they do inspect the pre-owned pianos to make sure they’re in good working condition before selling it to new customers.

The Pitfalls of Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist
You will find some amazing deals, or so they first appear. You may find a Steinway grand for $5,000, a used Baldwin for $900, or other pianos entirely for free. Please bear in mind that you will need to pay to move the instrument, and you really need to have a technician go to the location of the piano with you (unless you are an expert). Sometimes you can’t tell that a piano needs thousands of dollars worth of work, or can’t really be saved at all.
Buying New vs. Used
If you can afford it, buying a new piano is a safe decision. Steinway, Bosendorfer, and other high end brands hold their value well, and in some instances, gain value over time. Yamaha is priced lower than Steinway, but they make wonderful acoustic pianos that will last for many decades. If you want an heirloom piece that you can pass down, a new piano is a good investment.
A used piano can also be a great idea. A used Steinway can still cost well over $20K, while you can find refurbished Baldwins, Yamahas, Bostons and other brands at one of the retailers shown above for under $10K. You will pay a small markup, but it is probably a better idea to purchase a used piano from a dealer who has tuned, voiced, and fixed the piano itself.
