Recitals and Studio Classes
Scottsdale Studio of Music offers students, both pre-college and adults, the chance to perform in front of their peers (and friends and family) multiple times throughout the calendar year. While we don’t force students to participate, we love watching the pianists in our community gain confidence and make friends through these friendly and fun recitals. This also gives our instructors the chance to teach performance skills and musical interpretation.
Lessons Are Fun and Personalized
Children won’t want to practice at home if piano isn’t fun, and adult students aren’t looking for another stoic, lackluster activity after a long day at work. With that in mind, we make lessons fun, personalized, and interactive. For kids, we might include games in our lessons, or use a favorite musical theme from a movie. For adults, we love to tailor your lessons to fit your unique interests and goals.
Upscale Professional Environment
From our comfortable waiting area to our professional lesson studios with real acoustic pianos, our studio space is meant to encourage focus and musical creativity. We invite you to join us for a trial lesson and tour the space for yourself!
About Our Piano Teachers in Scottsdale, AZ
Nothing makes a bigger difference in a student’s musical development than a teacher who plays the piano at a professional level, has experience teaching a variety of ages, and carries an understanding of music that goes beyond notes, key signatures, and dynamics. Our teachers have earned degrees in music and accumulated significant professional experience, and we love helping students of all ages and abilities. We lead by example, and we are always happy to divert from the “lesson plan” to answer questions during our teaching sessions.
We understand that each piano student has different goals and backgrounds, and for that reason, we always customize our private piano lessons to the individual’s needs. Please contact us for more information about your new piano teacher!
Piano Lessons For Children and Teens
Many of our students at Scottsdale Studio of Music are young beginners, middle school students, and high schoolers. We love working with kids and teens at the studio, and we would love to hear from you.
We keep piano lessons fun, engaging, and educational for young kids - we teach them important musical concepts starting on day one, but we also include some musical games, activities “off the bench,” fun tunes that children can play, and more. Generally speaking, it’s more important for a young child to fall in love with the piano than it is for a child to play a five-finger scale perfectly in the first month (although we always attempt both!).
Teens at our studio often come with some musical experience, but we are also happy to teach high school beginners. Whether they want to play keyboard in a band, major in Music Education in college, or try something new, we would love to work with the teen in your family.
Piano Lessons For Adults
Adults contact our Scottsdale piano school with many different goals. Some students need a new hobby after their kids have left for university, some want to pick up where their piano lessons left off 20 years ago, some want to enjoy sight reading Mendelsohn at home on their own, and some young professionals are looking for a new outlet to meet other young adults.
We will help you reach your goals, whether they be to play a Chopin concerto, sight read Bach, improvise jazz, play Bossa Nova, and more. Get in touch to discuss your specific goals!

What Musical Concepts Can You Learn in Piano Lessons?
We teach a holistic approach to piano playing, so you will learn how to read notes, count in all of the time signatures, understand the bass and treble clefs, play with dynamics, and play with both hands simultaneously. Furthermore, we will make sure you play with healthy, relaxed technique (to avoid injuries and play with speed).
We will also focus on more advanced concepts, like interpreting a piece musically, improvising over a bass line, and even writing music if you are interested. In short, we want you to be a confident, well-rounded musician.
What Kind of Piano Do You Need at Home?
We don’t require our students to have any particular instrument at home, but you do need to be able to practice on your own! We will assign materials and practice strategies, but you won’t improve if you don’t practice. You can practice on a grand piano, an upright, and 88 key digital keyboard, and even a 61 key digital piano if that’s what you have space for. If you have an usual instrument setup at home, please let your teacher know - it may require different practice assignments.
